Cake Pops
Or...why not make them yourself!
Cake pops are a fun way to make some tasty little fabulous favors for your guests. Here’s how to do it:

- Make a cake (2 – 9 inch cakes). You can use a box mix or make your cake from scratch – whatever you feel most comfortable with. Break the cake up into small pieces (or run the cake through a food processor til crumbly).
- Make a ganache, click here to learn how, or use a 1 tub of frosting. Mix the cake pieces with the ganache or frosting until the mixture sticks together fairly well.
- Chill or freeze the cake balls until firm.
- Add a lollipop stick into the balls about half way before dipping into melted chocolate.
- Melt chocolate to dip the cake balls into (be sure to add a couple of pats of butter to make the chocolate glossy). Here’s where you can get creative: you can use dark, milk or white chocolate but you can also visit your local cake decorating store or craft store to get colored chocolates to match the colors of your wedding. You can also add food coloring to your white chocolate to match. Dip the cake balls into the chocolate and decorate.
- Use sprinkles or nonpariels to decorate.
- Wrap with plastic and tie off with a bow. Add little paper flags with the bride and groom’s name to the end of the lollipop sticks.

San Diego Wedding Insider - Create Your Own Unity Candle Make Your Own Unity Candle...
A unity candle is a ceremony that represents the joining of two families. It uses two tapered candles (usually lit by the mother’s of the bride and groom) which are used to light a larger pillar candle (the unity candle) by the bride and groom. The couple can then save and keep the unity candle to relight on their anniversaries.

Here a few ideas on how to create your own unity candle:
- Obtain a plain, white pillar candle to use as your base.
- Decorate the pillar candle with matching organza ribbon in the colors of your wedding.
- Decorate a piece of cardstock paper embossed or stamped with your names and the date of your wedding.
- Use tissue paper to stamp on a symbol, your names, a quote or other details of the wedding or couple. Use an embossing gun to carefully heat the candle and adhere the tissue paper to the base of the candle. See this blog article about embossing candles.
- Create a mosiac pattern on the candle. Make a simple shape such as the outline of 2 hearts together.

San Diego Wedding Insider - Dancing Lessons Wedding Ceremony March...
You don’t have to march down the aisle to the same traditional “Here Comes the Bride” wedding music that a lot of couples use for their wedding ceremony. You can be a bit more modern in your approach and use a modern song to walk down the aisle to instead. You can pick a song that’s meaningful for you.

Another idea is to hire an acoustic guitarist or a string quartet to play the song you picked out. This is a good idea if your ceremony location is limited and does not have a sound system available or you’re not able to set one up.

Here are a few ideas for some potential songs that you can use in your ceremony:
- “At Last” by Etta James
- “You and I” by Stevie Wonder
- “In My Life” by The Beatles
- “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith
- “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes
- “From This Moment” – Shania Twain
- “Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones
- “We’ve Only Just Begun” by The Carpenters
